Hydor, a Norwegian specialist marine insurer based in Oslo, has announced the launch of its new aquaculture insurance offering. The company said this new business line will be supported by first-class security and delivered by a specialist aquaculture team based in Newcastle, England, UK.

According to Hydor, the Newcastle team will work closely with the company's global marine insurance platform to deliver a high-quality service proposition to the aquaculture market, with a strong emphasis on technical expertise, long-term relationships, and disciplined portfolio growth.

Aquaculture, a natural extension of Hydor's approach to specialist marine business

In its release, the Norwegian marine insurer said its aquaculture insurance offering will serve clients operating in both marine and freshwater aquaculture, with a focus on practical underwriting, deep risk understanding and agile claims management.

It added that the launch marks an important step in its continued growth as a specialist insurer and reinforces the company's commitment to providing focused, technical and service-driven solutions to clients and brokers across the marine sector.

"Hydor has always focused on specialist marine business where technical knowledge, underwriting discipline and strong relationships matter. Aquaculture is a natural extension of that approach," Folkert Strengholt, CEO of Hydor, stated.

"From 1 July, we are pleased to offer aquaculture insurance supported by first-class security and delivered by an experienced team with deep sector knowledge. We see a clear opportunity to provide brokers and clients with a focused, responsive and technically strong alternative in this important market," he added.

Regarding the new team, the company noted that it brings extensive experience in the sector, combining insurance knowledge with direct experience in fish farming operations, biological risks, fish health, site evaluation and loss prevention.

A specialist aquaculture proposition from Newcastle

Hydor's aquaculture team will be led by James Simison. Former Head of Aquaculture at the global marine insurer company NorthStandard, sharing on his LinkedIn profile that he had moved to the Norwegian company, he also announced that his team at his previous company would accompany him to his new destination.

"I am very pleased to announce that I have moved to Hydor. The rest of my team will be joining me here soon, and we look forward to providing the same excellent service we are known for," Simison wrote. "We are excited to join Hydor and to build a specialist aquaculture proposition from our base in Newcastle," he had stated earlier in Hydor's announcement, speaking on behalf of the aquaculture team.

"Aquaculture clients face increasingly complex biological, operational and environmental risks, and they need an insurance partner that understands both the industry and the practical realities of farming. Our team combines underwriting, risk management, claims and hands-on aquaculture experience, and we look forward to working closely with brokers and clients from 1 July," he added.

As mentioned above, the new Hydor aquaculture team brings together deep specialist expertise across underwriting, claims, risk management, fish health, farming operations and technical surveying.

According to the Norwegian specialist marine insurer, this blend of insurance, technical and operational expertise will enable it to provide a highly specialised aquaculture offering, supported by practical insight, disciplined underwriting and first-class claims and risk management capabilities.
