Skretting Spain has become the first aquaculture feed factory in the European Union to obtain the ASC Feed Standard certification.

This distinction applauds the feed company's efforts to recognize and mitigate the environmental and social risks facing aquaculture, while advancing towards sustainability.

"The standard sets a series of strict requirements that feed factories must meet to be certified, designed to ensure that feed production operations are sustainable from both an environmental and social perspective," confirms Alberto Vazquez, Purchasing / Procurement Manager at Skretting Spain.

Skretting Spain ensures that the measures taken for both plant-based and marine ingredients guarantee that they come from responsible, ethical, and sustainable value chains, contributing to environmental protection and social well-being.

"This recognition not only benefits Skretting Spain but also its customers, who can be assured that the products they purchase have been produced responsibly and sustainably," adds Elena Subiñas, Quality Director at Skretting Spain.

After "conquering" Japan

A few days ago, the Aquaculture Stewardship Council announced that Skretting Japan's Imari Plant was the first feed mill in the country to achieve the Feed Standard certification.

Skretting's plant, located in Saga Prefecture, Kyushu, the Imari Plant, produces feed for species such as freshwater trout, salmon, bass, bream, meager, seriola, cobia, and tropical marine finfish.

Furthermore, Skretting became in 2023 the first feed producer in Norway to obtain Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP) certification. This standard encompasses various aspects such as environmental and social responsibility, food safety, animal health and welfare, and traceability.
