Bioriginal continues with its expansion through strategic acquisitions. Cooke subsidiary specializing in solutions for the food and nutraceutical industries has announced the acquisition of POS Biosciences Corp. (POS), a Canadian company that is a world leader in ingredients and process technology. Following the acquisition, Bioriginal will also become its largest supplier and customer.

POS to operate independently

"We are grateful for the opportunity to acquire POS," said Shannon Sears, President and CEO of Bioriginal. "POS’s world-leading processing technology combined with its team of scientists in new product development will play a key role in driving innovation for the human and pet nutrition industries," he added.

In the statement announcing the acquisition, Bioriginal said that POS - standing for Proteins, Oils and Starches - will operate independently. It will do so under the guidance of the new Managing Director, Jim Shields.

The company also explained that it will now be POS's largest supplier and customer. The Cooke subsidiary will have access to its state-of-the-art oil processing, concentration, and molecular distillation facilities, designed to create value-added oils and proteins. In addition, POS's eleven laboratories and six pilot plant processing areas will also provide research and development services to Bioriginal.

Fifth strategic acquisition in twelve months

Since Bioriginal is a privately held company, the terms of the acquisition have not been made public but, as mentioned, this is the Cooke subsidiary's fifth acquisition in the last twelve months after buying Softgel Co. in Colorado, the U.S., Kroppenstedter Ölmühle in Germany, The Fatory in the Netherlands, and Cana Corp. in Japan.

Unlike these other strategic acquisitions, where the acquired companies are located in other countries, the new addition to the Cooke family is a local company, from Saskatoon, Canada, the same city where Bioriginal is headquartered.

As a result of this new strategic acquisition, the Bioriginal group now has eight factories on two continents, supported by regional offices in Anahiem (California, the U.S.), Den Bommel (the Netherlands), and Yokohama (Japan), as well as eighteen warehouses worldwide.
