Grieg's harvest in Rogaland declined 37% year-on-year in Q2 2026

On the positive side, it harvested a batch of 610 tons from Årdal Aqua, fully grown at the land-based facility before it was put to sea.

Grieg Seafood published its Q2 2026 trading update last week, reporting that its harvest volume for the second quarter was approximately 5,600 gutted weight tons (GWT). Compared to the 8,900 GWT the company harvested in Rogaland in Q2 2025, this represents a 37% year-on-year decline.

Added to the 8,200 GWT harvested in Q1 2026—a quarter with good harvest results but less satisfactory financial results—Grieg Seafood's total harvest volume for the first half of 2026 is 13,800 GWT.

The Norwegian salmon company thus closes the first half year under its new operating model, following the divestment of three regions to Cermaq Group—the exit of the operations in Finnmark (Norway) and Newfoundland and British Columbia (Canada) was completed in December.

As WeAreAquaculture reported, following the sale, Grieg Seafood announced it was reshaping the business, focusing solely on operations in Rogaland, Norway, and post-smolt. It is precisely this second line of business, post-smolt, that has brought the best news to the company in Q2 2026.

Good results in its post-smolt production venture

In presenting the Q4 2025 results—the latest with the old business model—the company's CEO, Nina Willumsen Grieg, described Grieg's strategic shift from global growth to regional profitability, including land-based post-smolt investment, and announced the company planned to conduct a pilot at Årdal, aiming for a harvest of 500 tons of fully grown fish, which she said would "provide insights into the potential of full-cycle land-based production."

Now presenting its second quarter results, the company has reported that in addition to the harvest in Rogaland, it has also successfully harvested a batch of 610 tons of fish from Årdal Aqua, which was fully grown at the land-based facility before it was put to sea. Therefore, Grieg has exceeded his initial forecast by 110 tons.

Located in Årdal, municipality of Hjelmeland, Norway, Årdal Aqua is a joint venture of Grieg Seafood together with Omfar AS, and Vest Havbruk AS whose objective is to produce 6,000 tons of "large smolt" annually for delivery to food fish farmers, primarily in Rogaland, although, as has been proven this quarter, the facility is also equipped to produce food fish.

According to Grieg's Q2 2026 trading update, the complete half-year report will be released on 27 August 2026.
