The Ministry of Production in Peru (PRODUCE) has authorized the start of the second fishing season for anchovy and white anchovy in the maritime area between 16°00'LS and the southernmost extent of Peru's maritime domain.

In more detail, the Minister Sergio González Guerrero indicated that the catch quota amounts to 251,000 tons of anchovy, with the season commencing on July 1, 2024, at 00:00 hours.

Additionally, he specified that the end date of the second season will be December 31, 2024, or once the maximum total allowable catch limit is reached.

The first season, which started in March, had the same catch limit according to the Peruvian Institute of the Sea (IMARPE) recommendation that relies on developing a sustainable activity to promote the revitalization of the fishing sector.

"The start of this second fishing season for anchovy and white anchovy in the southern part of the country represents a boost to the economy and ensures the continuity of a vital activity. At PRODUCE, we continue working to promote the sustainability of anchovy fishing in Peru and the well-being of the national economy," González emphasized.

According to the Directorate Resolution of the General Directorate of Fishing for Direct and Indirect Human Consumption of PRODUCE, only registered fishing vessels authorized with the relevant permits will be allowed to engage in fishing operations.

PRODUCE alerts that non-compliance with the Ministerial Resolution establishing the start of the second fishing season may result in sanctions.
