Up to 72 facilities have already been certified under MarinTrust's new fishmeal and fish oil standard, with 63 successfully transitioning from Version 2.
Additionally, 63 companies are currently awaiting certification, some of which operate multiple facilities, and 63 companies are currently awaiting this distinction.
The Factory Standard, Version 3 (V3) was announced on May 1, 2024, following its approval and release on October 23, 2023. Starting May 1 of this year, all facility audits are now conducted exclusively under these requirements.
These requirements focus on environmental, social, and traceability aspects, promoting the use of by-products to reduce waste and improve resource efficiency.
"Version 3 represents a bold step forward for the marine ingredients industry. With nearly half of the global production of fishmeal and fish oil already certified under MarinTrust, the new standard will drive even greater transparency and accountability across the supply chain. The growing global uptake shows a clear, shared commitment to a more sustainable industry," explained CEO Francisco Aldon.
Interested companies have followed a transition program that included webinars, workshops, and guidance documents. The standard is also complemented by the FAO Code of Conduct for Responsible Fisheries and the ILO conventions on labor rights.
