The Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) has, for the first time, recognized two feed mills in Venezuela under its Feed Certification Programme, reflecting the growing demand for more sustainable aquaculture feed in the region.
Initially, Agropecuaria Nivar became the country’s first feed mill to obtain ASC certification, followed by Proporca. Both companies are dedicated to shrimp feed production.
These certified Venezuelan feed mills demonstrate how Latin America continues to advance in sustainability and remains a key hub within the global shrimp supply chain. Currently, more than 130 feed mills are part of the ASC Feed Programme worldwide.
Regarding these recognitions, ASC Outreach Lead Marcos Moya said: "We congratulate Agropecuaria Nivar and Proporca for achieving ASC Feed Certification. By choosing the most robust and transparent certification in aquafeed manufacturing, they demonstrate their commitment to environmental and social responsibility."
Additionally, a representative from Agropecuaria Nivar noted: "This achievement reinforces our vision of adding value to our customers and to the development of the aquaculture sector in Venezuela."
Finally, Proporca's spokesperson added: "By aligning with world-class standards, we not only strengthen the trust of our business partners but also ensure that the shrimp industry has access to inputs that support its own certification and long-term sustainability."
Last year, ASC introduced changes to its compliance rules following the implementation of its new Feed Standard. Since then, all ASC-certified farms have been required to use only feed certified under the organization’s Feed Standard.
