Aquaculture technology firm Aquabyte has launched a new product called 'Aquabyte Behaviour', which monitors swim speed, swim tilt, and the breathing index of farmed fish.

Through an archive of video clips from the pens, the new tool provides insights into fish behaviour patterns, helping farmers reduce risks and improve welfare.

Aquabyte has been working on this product since August 2024 in collaboration with customers and research institutions. 'Aquabyte Behaviour' will be available to customers as early as next week.

"Aquabyte Behaviour gives fish farmers a unique window into the behaviour of their fish. Paired with our market-leading WISE Welfare product, it provides a complete picture of what is happening in the pen," detailed Reinhard Fellner, Director of Customer Success & Insight at Aquabyte.

Moreover, he assured: "In submerged farming, where both the fish and technical equipment are out of sight, monitoring the fish's behavior is not just helpful – it is a requirement."

Leadership shift at Aquabyte

In August 2024, Aquabyte announced a significant reshuffle at the head of the company, with Steve Tucker, currently serving as President and Chief Operating Officer (COO), stepping into the role of Chief Executive Officer (CEO). Founder Bryton Shang transitioned from his role as CEO to become the company’s Executive Chairman.

Aquabyte, with its operational headquarters in Bergen, Norway, also maintains offices in San Francisco, CA, and Puerto Montt, Chile. The company said it has secured a customer base that includes eight of the top ten companies in the global aquaculture industry.
