The Finnish firm focused on rainbow trout aquaculture, FifaxPlc, has signed a collaboration agreement with ReelData to use its biomass AI camera system, ReelWeight, at its RAS facility in Åland.

This is the first Finnish customer for the aquaculture AI technology company, and it is also the first time this type of technology is being used to measure the weight of rainbow trout.

Over several months, trials will be conducted to evaluate the average weight and weight distribution of the fish using a camera system specifically designed for land-based aquaculture facilities.

Regarding this partnership, the Head of Operations at the Fifax Eckerö facility, Niclas Jansson, said: "We believe that ReelData's biomass cameras offer an excellent opportunity to optimize and plan our operations while allowing us to monitor fish growth and welfare even more effectively."

Additionally, ReelData's Technology and Innovation Manager, Tim Trussell, noted: "This trial is a great opportunity to demonstrate the effectiveness of the ReelWeight system in rainbow trout farming as well. We are excited to collaborate with Fifax, a pioneer in land-based fish farming that is committed to ecological sustainability. We look forward to their next steps in the Finnish and Swedish markets."

In 2024, ReelData announced a series of trials of its biomass camera, ReelWeight, in collaboration with The Kingfish Company at its farming site in Zeeland, Netherlands.
