JBS Foods, a division of JBS S.A.—the world’s largest protein processing company, founded in Brazil—has announced the appointment of Charles von der Heyde as CEO of its Australian subsidiary, Huon Aquaculture.
The new CEO worked for over nine years at Bunge, a global agribusiness and food company. Later, in 2010, he took on the role of Senior Vice President of Commodity Risk Management, Feed Ingredient Purchasing, and Export Sales at US protein processor Pilgrim's.
Huon Aquaculture is an Australian company that specializes in Atlantic salmon and rainbow trout production. Founded in 1986 as a family business in Hideaway Bay, Tasmania, Huon is now the second-largest salmon producer in the state, after Tassal.
In July 2024, it announced the investment of AUS$ 110 million (USD 73m / EUR 68m) to expand its freshwater Atlantic salmon nursery facility in regional Tasmania by building a new Recirculating Aquaculture System (RAS).
This expansion, at Whale Point in Port Huon, allows Huon to grow salmon for longer on land, resulting in larger fish that spend less time in the marine environment and enhancing year-round production.
