The aquaculture technology company BioMarine is expanding into the UK and has appointed Chris Mitchell as its representative to focus on selling its proprietary sea lice skirts, deep-water lifting technology, environmental management solutions, and underwater lighting for fish cages.
Mitchell is a fisheries biologist with extensive experience in the UK aquaculture sector who has held business development roles at Landcatch, Pharmaq, and most recently at WellFish Tech.
"We are pleased to welcome Chris to the team. He is a versatile and experienced industry professional whose expertise in fish health will allow him to lead our efforts in the UK market," said BioMarine's Export Manager Nils Hovden.
The Export Manager has stated that the situation in Scotland and Ireland is similar to Norwegian salmon farming, with both large and small companies continuously expanding. Additionally, consumers are increasingly concerned about fish welfare.
"Although there are differences in the design and size of cages, our systems can be adapted to meet most needs. Additionally, we are aware that rising temperatures have posed challenges for salmon farmers in western Scotland and Ireland—challenges we believe our technology can help mitigate," Hovden explained.
Bio Marine develops and markets products and systems that ensure a good environment and safety for farmed fish, with particular emphasis on oxygen supply, water circulation, environmental monitoring, and lighting.
The Norwegian company offers OxyVision's technology and expertise, which has presented leading solutions in oxygen systems in aquaculture for over 20 years. Its products and solutions are for both land-based and sea-based farming, which today has key functions in temperate and tropical aquaculture in 12 countries - and in all continents.
