January 2026 was Bjørg Mette Holmefjord Antonsen's last month working at Bolaks. The Norwegian salmon farmer announced that its Managing Director was retiring after a lifelong career at the company, where for decades she has been what the announcement described as "a major driving force in the development of both the industry and Bolaks."
A second-generation salmon farmer, Holmefjord Antonsen has held various positions throughout her career at the company, which is headquartered in Eikelandsosen, Hordaland, and operates in Bjørnafjorden municipality, producing roe, broodstock and food fish.
Of its outgoing Managing Director, Bolaks said she has been a pillar of strength for the company both professionally and personally, shaping it into the solid group it is today. It added that she has built culture, competence, and quality, always with a heartfelt commitment to fish and people, the fjord, and the local community in Fusa and Bjørnafjorden.
In its statement, the Norwegian salmon farming company also said that, through her work, Bjørg Mette Holmefjord Antonsen has been a role model in the sector and an inspiration to both her colleagues and partners, calling her "a guiding star in the industry."
"Bjørg Mette has been absolutely crucial to Bolaks' development. Her efforts, values, and leadership have left a lasting mark on the organization," the company's leadership stated. "Her transition into retirement has been planned over a long period. We owe her a great deal of gratitude for everything she has contributed and are grateful she was with us through the celebration of Bolaks' 50th anniversary."
Founded by the Holmefjord family in 1975, Bolaks celebrated its 50th anniversary in the last quarter of 2025, shortly before the announcement of its acquisition by Alsaker last December, to form the largest privately owned salmon farming company in western Norway.
Alsaker's acquisition of 100% of the shares in the Bolaks Group was finally approved by the Norwegian Competition Authority on January 19. The purchase agreement was completed on January 26, just a few days before Holmefjord Antonsen's retirement was announced.
In this announcement, Bolaks' new owner, Gerherd Alsaker, joined the company's management and employees, as well as the former owners, the Holmefjord family, in expressing their sincere gratitude to Bjørg Mette Holmefjord Antonsen for her lifelong contributions and congratulating her on "a well-deserved retirement."
