The Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC), Shrimp Insights, and Contango launch a new global shrimp event. The purpose of this event is to bring together top executives to exchange ideas about the industry. The Global Shrimp Forum will take place Sept. 6-8 in Utrecht, The Netherlands.
Firstly, farmed shrimp production has doubled over the past 10 years. Although is one of the most widely-consumed seafood species worldwide, the industry still struggles with fragmentation, disease, and other challenges. So, these issues have kept it from making larger strides.
Besides, the Global Shrimp Forum will become the largest unique top-executive meeting place for the shrimp industry. Thereby, it will bring together more than 400 leading players across the entire supply chain.
To sum up, the event will focus on various topics, including production and market outlooks, technology, regulations, and finance. Shrimp Insights owner Willem van der Pijl is the managing director of the new group.
The purpose of the Global Shrimp Forum Foundation (GSFF) is to establish a global platform for knowledge sharing, innovation, and industry value-chain collaboration for driving a sustainable future for the industry.
Willem van der Pijl, owner of Shrimp Insights, and founder, board member, and Managing Director of Global Shrimp Forum, said: "The shrimp industry is fragmented. This high level of fragmentation makes it difficult to convene a meeting where all these players feel represented, which is why the Global Shrimp Forum is such an important initiative".
