Ignacio González, CEO of Nueva Pescanova Group, has announced that he will leave his position on June 16, after more than seven years in the role. According to the company and his own words on Social Media, this decision is due to "strictly personal reasons."
Nueva Pescanova has decided that his functions will be developed by José María Benavent, Executive Chairman of the Group since 2020, and a member of the boards as an advisor since 2019. A professional with an extensive experience in the company that will allow him to become a leader of the Board of Directors.
The company thanked González for his commitment and dedication and wished him the best in his professional future, also recognizing his great contribution to the company. "During these exciting years, Ignacio has led with determination the transformation the company needed, leading it to the position where it is today, with a renewed and competitive fleet, innovating in aquaculture, in products, in advertising, with a rejuvenated brand, better compliance and processes, with sustainability and social responsibility as key strategies, a modernized culture and a rebuilt reputation."
For his part, Gonzalez showed his gratefulness and communicated on his social networks that it was time to look for new adventures. "After more than seven years at the head of this wonderful project that is Grupo Nueva Pescanova, I leave to seek new adventures. Personal reasons have led me to make this difficult decision, and today I only have words of gratitude for the more than 11,000 crew members I have had the honor of captaining during these years."
In a message full of affection towards the company and its employees, the outgoing CEO listed the achievements made during his years at the helm of Nueva Pescanova, which he described as "the most exciting professional project of [his] life", and added that he will be a "Pescalover" forever. He also asked for forgiveness for the possible mistakes made, although, he clarified, "it was always with the Company in my head and in my heart".
Finally, Ignacio González referred to the conversations between Abanca -current owner of the company- and the Canadian family business Cooke, with which it reached an agreement to negotiate exclusively the purchase by the Canadian seafood company of 80% of the Spanish bank's stake in Nueva Pescanova.
"I believe that the company has the best possible future thanks to Abanca and Cooke, the probable new partner, which I am convinced – as I have said publicly – will be an excellent shareholder for growth", he concluded.
Nueva Pescanova is a Spanish multinational leader in the seafood market sector and also is one of the few companies present in the entire value chain: fish, grow, process, and market more than 70 species of fish and seafood in 80 countries around the world.
