The European Commission has launched a survey to analyse and improve the structure, performance and competitiveness of the European ocean observation sector.
This survey is part of a broader assessment of the competitiveness of the EU's sustainable blue economy sector, with a particular focus on ocean observation technologies.
In addition, it will support the rollout of the OceanEye initiative, which seeks to strengthen Europe's position as a global leader in ocean observation technologies and secure a 35% share of the global ocean technology market by 2035.
The survey will be open until 15 September and takes approximately 15–20 minutes to complete. All companies and organisations developing, supplying or working with ocean observation technologies are invited to participate.
Finally, participants will receive a summary of the aggregated results and, if they provide consent, may be considered for inclusion in case studies highlighting companies from the European ocean observation sector.
Furthermore, the findings of the analysis will help ensure that future EU policies, funding programmes and support measures address the sector's actual needs and priorities.
At the beginning of the year, the European Commission invited experts to join a new high-level group that will provide advice on the implementation of the European Ocean Pact and help shape the EU's ocean policy.
