The proposed merger would unite two exporters with close ties to salmon producers and the seafood industry across Northern Norway.

After two months of decline, they grew again thanks to increased salmon volumes, especially to China, and high wild fish prices.

In the first two months of 2026, Norway exported seafood worth NOK 28.5 billion, a decrease of 2.7%, compared with the same period in 2025.

The decline contributed to the fall in total Norwegian seafood exports, which was not sharper because of strong demand for salmon in China.

"Despite setting a new export record in 2025, the backdrop is far more demanding and gloomier than at the same time last year," the Norwegian Seafood Council CEO explained.

Salmon, which had fallen in recent months, registered a monthly export record, both in volume, with a 4% year-on-year increase, and in value, with a 7% increase.
