Pure Salmon and Pure Salmon Technology have signed a partnership with TOPIAN, the NEOM Food Company that dedicates to develop food systems with a focus on sustainability and innovation. The agreement was announced during the first day of the Saudi International Marine Exhibition & Conference (SIMEC).
The aim of this agreement is to create a "pioneering" RAS salmon production facility in NEOM, through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with Abu Dhabi land-based aquaculture company, Pure Salmon. In addition, the Abu Dhabi Investment Office and Mubadala Capital have collaborated in this initiative.
There is no similar facility in the region and will be designed to meet "the growing demand for salmon, ensuring freshness, quality, and taste for the Kingdom and neighboring markets."
According to ZAWYA, a source of regional news and for professionals across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and other parts of the Middle East and Africa, TOPIAN also signed a key agreement with The National Livestock and Fisheries Development Program (NLFDP).
This last project is focused on "research and technological development, sustainable aquaculture practices in the Red Sea, and establishing a national seafood market."
Finally, ZAWYA confirmed TOPIAN signed a collaboration with the National Aquaculture Group (NAQUA), aiming to contribute to the development of the local aquaculture sector, and to further commercialize NAQUA’s seafood products across the Saudi market."
In December 2023, NEOM announced the launch of 'TOPIAN', the NEOM Food Company. Topian seeks to "redefine food production, distribution, and consumption through the creation of sustainable and innovative food solutions across five vertical pillars: climate-proof agriculture; regenerative aquaculture; novel foods; personalized nutrition; sustainable food supply and ESG."
The Saudi Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture (MEWA) has promoted the release of this project and NEOM indicated it is "fully aligned with the KSA’s goal of achieving Saudi Vision 2030, spearheading the Kingdom's efforts to ensure food security, mitigate climate change and achieve net-zero emissions by 2060."
