Seaweed producer Ocean Rainforest has announced the acquisition of a 60% stake in Mexico-based company Alamarsa, the owner of the Algamar brand, which produces biostimulants and food products derived from giant kelp and other seaweed species.
In a news release announcing the deal, Ocean Rainforest said the acquisition will significantly expand its product portfolio and strengthen its global market presence. The Faroe Islands-headquartered seaweed company indicated it plans to integrate Algamar’s expertise in seaweed extraction and processing with its own advanced open-ocean seaweed farming technology.
"Following this acquisition, Ocean Rainforest is now able to produce biostimulants and other advanced seaweed-based products, at its facilities in Santa Barbara, California, the Faroe Islands, and at Algamar’s processing facility in Ensenada, Mexico, sourced from seaweed species cultivated in both the North Atlantic and Pacific Oceans and serving the U.S., European, and Mexican markets," Ocean Rainforest stated.
