The Vietnamese company Trang Corporation and the seafood supplier Dary Foods Co. have joined the Humane Slaughter Initiative of the Shrimp Welfare Project to promote harvest practices with high welfare standards in shrimp farming.

Specifically, Trang Corporation, which produces, processes, and exports seafood, has committed to electrically stunning 1,800 metric tonnes of shrimp annually using a shrimp stunner provided by the Shrimp Welfare Project.

The project includes free equipment, training, and technical support on humane slaughter provided by Shrimp Welfare, collaboration between shrimp producers and buyers, and the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU), which represents the 25th corporate partnership of the program and the ninth in Vietnam.

"With partners like Trang Corporation and Trangs Group embracing humane slaughter, Shrimp Welfare Project is proud to help the industry transition to more responsible aquaculture practices," expressed Shrimp Welfare Project's Chief Programmes Officer, Krzysztof Wojtas.

Additionally, Trangs Group's Global Sales Director David Ho said: "By joining this initiative, we ensure the prawns we supply meet the highest ethical standards, reflecting our commitment to sustainability and animal wellbeing."

In line with this collaboration, as many as 11 major retailers across the UK and Europe have announced their intention to adopt policies implementing humane slaughter and eliminating eyestalk ablation in their supply chains.
