The research and development organization based in Scotland, Moredun, has confirmed that Dr. Anita Jaglarz has returned as Head of the Aquaculture Research Group (ARG).
Initially, Jaglarz worked as a research scientist in 2006 at the bacteriology department on mastitis research. Later, in 2013, when ARG was established, she joined as a postdoctoral researcher.
In 2018, she moved to Singapore and gained extensive experience in the development and registration of fish vaccines, led cross-functional R&D teams, and managed site operations.
Regarding her return, Jaglarz said: "Moredun is a special place. Being surrounded by passionate individuals who support one another creates an environment where great things can happen."
From now on, she will lead a team focused on various projects, ranging from sea lice vaccines to large collaborative initiatives aimed at developing new technologies for early disease detection and prevention, to benefit both the aquaculture industry and the environment.
According to Moredun, disease outbreaks have hindered the expansion of the aquaculture industry. It is estimated that pathogens and parasites are responsible for 5-7% of annual losses in finfish aquaculture, representing between £4-5 billion in lost revenue globally.
In April 2024, the University of Stirling's Institute of Aquaculture, Otter Ferry Seafish, AQUATRECK Animal Health, and Moredun Scientific received almost £40,000 from the Sustainable Aquaculture Innovation Centre (SAIC) to develop vaccines against Aeromonas salmonicida.
