Chile, Peru, Colombia, and Mexico, through the Women's Network of Artisanal Fisheries and Aquaculture of the Pacific Alliance, gathered during Women's Month to address gender equality in the fisheries and aquaculture sector.

Specifically, the Undersecretariat of Fisheries and Aquaculture (Subpesca), along with the Undersecretariat of International Economic Relations (Subrei) and the Pacific Alliance, held the webinar "Advancing Towards Gender Equality in Fisheries and Aquaculture: Best Practices and Ongoing Challenges in the Pacific Alliance."

During the talk, which attracted up to a hundred participants, the initiatives being carried out in these countries to highlight the role of women in the maritime sector were discussed, as they require greater support from public institutions.

Specifically, Marcela Godoy, Head of Planning and Management Control at Subpesca, detailed the cases of gender equity promotion in Chile, where female representation stands at 26% in the Artisanal Fishing Registry and 71.95% in the Registry of Related Activities.

Also, she highlighted the coordinated efforts of Subpesca, Sernapesca, and Indespa, which have allowed the implementation of a series of actions and measures to advance gender equality in the sector.

This initiative is part of the activities promoted by the Women’s Network of Artisanal Fisheries and Aquaculture of the Pacific Alliance, an initiative also supported by Subpesca to the Technical Group on Fisheries and Aquaculture.
