The Icelandic land-based salmon farmer LAXEY has hired Rustan Lindquist as its new Director of Aquaculture. Lindquist has already joined as a consultant, collaborating on technical design and plans, and will formally occupy the new role on the 1st of September.
The new Director has led several projects through his Swedish company RAS 365 AB, such as establishing a cutting-edge RAS farm at Skagen Salmon in Denmark, providing production support at Fortum AB in Sweden, and Mirai fish farm in Japan.
According to a statement released by LAXEY on its website, Lindquist's addition to the team marks "a significant step forward in our mission for sustainable aquaculture excellence."
In late April, LAXEY announced the successful completion of a €40 million equity private placement. Among the investors were Skretting's parent company, Nutreco, Seaborn, Kjartan Ólafsson, and a Dutch industrial seafood company.
Additionally, the Icelandic company and Landsvirkjun (National Power Company of Iceland) have agreed to build together a new land-based aquaculture facility on the Vestmannaeyjar islands through a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) where renewable will be the main philosophy to follow.
