Last week, Salmones Camanchaca inaugurated its new Aquaculture Monitoring Center (CMA), located in Puerto Montt, Los Lagos Region, Chile. The company claimed that the facility will strengthen the safety of its operations through continuous monitoring, specialized technology, and a more efficient response to risk situations.
The Chilean salmon producer added that, through continuous monitoring of the marine farms, even when they are in a rest period, the new CMA will also strengthen the protection of employees, suppliers and strategic assets.
"This project reflects the company's evolution in security, which is built not only with technology, but also with trained personnel, robust processes, and a preventative culture present throughout the organization," said Manuel Arriagada, General Manager of Salmones Camanchaca, who was present at the inauguration.
"This Monitoring Center reflects that vision and is part of an effort to continue strengthening the trust of our employees, suppliers, communities, and authorities in the areas where we operate," Arriagada added.
Together with Salmones Camanchaca, the project implementation was developed in conjunction with RTD Latam, AsiaTech and Dahua Technology, all of which are companies specializing in security and monitoring solutions.
During the inauguration of the Aquaculture Monitoring Center, Fabiana Rifo, General Manager of RTD Latam, highlighted that "this Center demonstrates how the integration of technology, processes and people allows the development of solutions that strengthen safety and add value to the industry."
Similarly, Ren He, General Manager of Dahua Technology Chile, stated that "technology fulfills its greatest purpose when it contributes to protecting people and strengthening the prevention capacity of organizations, allowing for more efficient management in the face of operational challenges."
Salmones Camancha's focus on safety is a constant throughout the company. For example, last year it launched a Diving Platform—located in Puerto Varas, also in the Los Lagos region—to enable precise monitoring of underwater operations and minimize risks. On that occasion, it was developed in partnership with technology provider DataQu.
Now, beyond the technological development and modernization that the new Aquaculture Monitoring Center represents for Salmones Camanchaca, with the new facility, the company is also reaching a new safety milestone for the Chilean salmon industry.
With this project, Camanchaca becomes the first salmon farming company in the country to accredit—through the Maritime Identification Card (TIM)—all of its monitoring operators before DIRECTEMAR, the General Directorate of Maritime Territory and Merchant Marine, an agency of the Chilean Navy and the public service that acts as the national Maritime Authority.
On behalf of DIRECTEMAR, Lieutenant 1º María José Matzner also praised the new facility during its inauguration. "It allows us to monitor operations remotely and in real time, prevent situations that could cause pollution, and, above all, fulfill our primary objective, which is to preserve human life at sea," she said.
"Furthermore, the information from the weather stations allows us to assess the conditions at each center and contribute to a safer operation," concluded Lt. 1º Matzner.
Finally, Salmones Camanchaca also noted that its CMA complies with the standards established by the Chilean Private Security Law, incorporating capabilities that strengthen coordination with the competent authorities and the safeguarding of information necessary to support investigations when appropriate.
