DLG Benelux, the organizer behind the seaweed industry Seagriculture conferences, has announced that the inaugural Seagriculture World conference will take place next year in Bangkok, Thailand.
The new event follows the merger of Seagriculture USA and Seagriculture Asia-Pacific announced earlier this spring.
“Bringing Seagriculture World to Bangkok allows us to position the event at the heart of global seaweed activity, " said the organizing team at DLG Benelux, via a press release. “Asia accounts for the majority of seaweed cultivation, making it the perfect location to host a truly international event.”
The event will feature a three-day programme, opening with site visits to local seaweed operations and projects, followed by the main conference and trade event, including expert-led sessions focusing on scientific, commercial, and regulatory developments, a trade exhibition, poster presentations, and networking events.
The other main Seagriculture conference, Seagriculture EU, will this month be returning for its 14th edition, taking place in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, from 17 to 19 June 2025, with over 250 delegates from more than 30 countries expected to attend.
With the overall theme of "Seaweed 2.0: Today’s Scaling for Tomorrow’s Needs," the conference will focus on "expanding and professionalising the seaweed sector to meet the rising global demand for sustainable solutions".
This year's event will once again open with site visits, with delegates choosing to visit either Hortimare in Heerhugowaard to learn about breeding and farming operations, or the Royal Netherlands Institute for Sea Research (NIOZ) in Yerseke, where they can attend a scientific meeting and take a tour of the institute's seaweed research facilities.
