The Sustainable Shrimp Partnership (SSP) has joined the Global Sustainable Seafood Initiative (GSSI) as an Affiliated Partner. Therefore, both organisms will promote responsible practices, ensuring the long-term viability of marine resources, without forgetting people and ecosystems.

According to Pamela Nath, SSP Director, collaborating with GSSI will help them to attend Ecuadorian shrimp producers' efforts to address global sustainability challenges and protect the sector's sustainability standards.

The SSP celebrates last March its 6 years of trajectory promoting sustainability in global shrimp production. Some of the companies that integrate the organization are Grupo Almar, Grupo Camaronero Champmar, Corporación Lanec, Omarsa, Promarisco, and Songa.

"We’re excited about this collaboration, and confident that we’ll develop pathways for improvement in shrimp production and identify solutions and projects to advance proactively. Moreover, we aim to share our results to inspire other stakeholders to join the race to the top, ensuring safe and high-quality seafood for all," Nath added.

On the other hand, GSSI CEO Oyvind Ihle noted: "The inclusion of SSP marks a significant milestone in our shared mission to advance the sustainable seafood movement - with a focus on the farmed shrimp sector. By joining forces, we can elevate industry standards, inspire broader participation in the pursuit of sustainability, and increase access to sustainable seafood for all."

Last week, Ihle was announced as the new CEO of the Global Sustainable Seafood Initiative. He replaced Lisa Goché, who had held the position on an interim basis since February 2023, following the resignation of the previous CEO, Herman Wise.
