Salmon producer Suempol has announced that it is acquiring 100% of the shares in the Belgian company Van Biesen & Pieters, based in Sint-Gillis-Waas, which specializes in shrimp processing and distribution.

In this way, the Polish company opens a new product segment and returns to its roots by offering top-quality shrimp — a service it discontinued more than 30 years ago at its production plant.

Van Biesen & Pieters was founded by a Belgian family in 1940 to offer premium-quality products with an innovative, market-oriented approach. Following the acquisition, the current owner, representing the fourth generation, will remain part of the team.

"Today, with great satisfaction, we revitalize shrimp preparation and distribution, recognizing the vast potential and new growth perspectives for the entire Suempol Group. We believe that the experience and reputation of Van Biesen & Pieters in the Belgian market will be an important asset in strengthening our international position," expressed the Vice-President of Suempol Management Board, Maciej Jaworowski.

Additionally, the Managing Director of Van Biesen & Pieters, Anthony Pieters, said: "With production plants and offices in Poland, Germany, Norway, France, the United Kingdom, and now also in Belgium, we are reinforcing our position as one of Europe’s leading family-owned seafood companies."

Suempol is the oldest producer of smoked salmon in Poland and one of the largest in the world. Its headquarters and main production facility are located in Bielsk Podlaski and date back to 1989. In 2024, the company acquired 100% of the shares of Copernus Ltd, a leading fresh fish supplier for the UK market.
