Garware Technical Fibres Limited has created a new line of ropes for the seeds of the southern Chilean mussel which helps the mollusk to adhere more efficiently.

Additionally, its polypropylene fibers are highly fibrillated loops, thus offering resistance as a support for the growth of the mussel. Also, these ropes are UV stabilized to ensure durability in aquatic environments.

Garware offers different loop sizes according to customer needs. For greater strength, robes are made with three strands and have a diameter of 16 mm, with the loop measuring 40 to 50 mm in length.

Finally, the length of the coil is continuous, making it easy to handle and store, providing a robust and flexible solution.

The Chilean mussel industry

"The cultivation and processing of mussels is a fundamental activity in Chilean aquaculture and has significant contributions to the national economy, with exports exceeding 370 million dollars per year," explained Rodrigo Carrasco, Executive Director of Mussel farmers from Chile (AmiChile).

On the other hand, Francisco Serra, commercial manager of Garware Technical Fibres Chile, said: "The synergy between the experience and technical knowledge of Garware Technical Fibers, together with the growing demand for specialized products for aquaculture, make this business expansion a promising strategy both for the company and for the development and strengthening of the mussel farming sector."

"Furthermore, it reflects Garware's commitment to innovation and support for the development of aquaculture in Chile and other regions where this activity is relevant," he concluded.

In late May, the Indian company presented 'Renew Ropes', the first 100% recycled ropes that reduce the carbon footprint by 50% and help trade associations and salmon-producing companies reach their sustainability standards.
