The Government is backing a mussel spat project to address the supply problems that are limiting the productivity and growth of the mussel aquaculture industry in the country.
The “Ropes to Reefs” project is tagging lobsters near Offshore Shellfish’s mussel farm in Lyme Bay, to better understand how mussel aquaculture affects other marine life and regional fishery species.
Researchers at the University of Stirling’s Institute of Aquaculture hope new knowledge can help Scottish mussel farmers improve production levels for stability and profitability.
