Netherlands-based yellowtail farmer The Kingfish Company has announced that Jordi Trias will be stepping down from his position as a member of the company's Supervisory Board. The executive has informed of his intention to resign from his position during the first quarter of 2026, although the exact date is yet to be determined.
Within the Supervisory Board, Trias represents Stolt-Nielsen M. S. Ltd., which currently holds a 12.3% stake in The Kingfish Company and is the fourth largest shareholder behind Creadev International S.A.S., ASR Nederland, and Rabo Participaties B.V.
The President of Stolt Sea Farm was re-elected to the Supervisory Board last spring during the 2025 Annual General Meeting, coinciding with the arrival of Xavier Govare, who joined as a new member following the announcement of Alexandre van der Wees' resignation.
In the statement announcing his stepping down, The Kingfish Company said that Jordi Trias will continue to serve on the Supervisory Board until his resignation takes effect. In the meantime, the Nomination Committee will initiate a search process to identify a suitable successor.
Trias' departure from the Supervisory Board during the first quarter of 2026 will coincide with the arrival of the company's new CEO, Karl Buiks, who will take over from Vincent Erenst on January 1, 2026, after the latter announced his retirement.
After the news broke, Jeroen Scheelbeek, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of The Kingfish Company, thanked Trias on behalf of the Board for his "exceptional contribution" over the past three years.
"His expertise, strategic insight and wise judgement have been invaluable to Kingfish and have supported the Company's growth and development during an important phase of its journey," he said. "His perspective and experience will be greatly missed," Scheelbeek concluded.
"I have greatly enjoyed my three years on the Supervisory Board of The Kingfish Company and am proud of the progress the Company has made during this period," Jordi Trias stated for his part, commenting on his decision to step down.
"Kingfish is in a strong position to further strengthen its leadership in the yellowtail category, supported by its innovative and sustainable technology. As the Company enters this next phase, I intend to focus more fully on my responsibilities within my own business at Stolt Sea Farm," he added.
A pioneer and leader in land-based production of yellowtail kingfish based on advanced recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS), The Kingfish Company postponed its expected profitability target for the end of this year last September.
Nevertheless, the company also stated at the time that it expects to achieve profitability in 2026. Looking at its latest results report for the third quarter of 2025, it appears to be on track, as it confirmed that its upward streak is continuing.
