A new BIM survey has identified 662 tonnes of legacy aquaculture gear around Ireland’s coast, providing what the agency says is a basis for future recycling and waste management systems.
"No sector could accept or sustain such a prospect,” said IFA Aquaculture chair Finian O’Sullivan at a recent industry meeting, calling for urgent reform to the country's applications system.
The West Cork marine biotechnology company has initially launched its products in Ireland and the UK, with plans to expand into international markets later in 2026.
BIM says its initiatives, including the Aquaculture Remote Classroom, aim to improve understanding of seafood production and attract younger people to careers in the sector.
