Researchers at the University of Florida have already received a $250,000 grant from NOAA's National Sea Grant Aquaculture Program to lead this project.
Data gathered from North Sea Farmers' inaugural harvest will help assess the environmental impact and potential for scaling offshore seaweed cultivation.
GlobalSeaweed-SUPERSTAR project, led by the Scottish Association for Marine Science (SAMS), is calling for seaweed to be granted conservation status similar to coral reefs, mangroves and seagrasses.
