IFFO, The Marine Ingredients Organisation, has reported that total cumulative fishmeal production in March 2025 increased by approximately 29% compared to the same period in 2024.
A significant increase in Peru has been one of the main reasons for this growth. Likewise, Chile, the United States, Spain, and the African countries have also significantly increased their production compared to January–March of last year.
Moreover, total cumulative fish oil production through March 2025 increased by 34% year over year, and Peru's efforts were again responsible for this phenomenon. Except for the European countries, all other regions also experienced positive trends.
In January 2025, when total fishmeal production increased by approximately 75% compared to the same month in 2024, IFFO confirmed that this rise was also driven by Peruvian production.
This data is based on reports provided by IFFO members in Chile, Denmark, the Faroe Islands, Iceland, Ivory Coast, Mauritius, Norway, the United Kingdom, the United States, Peru, South Africa, and Spain. Together, these countries account for 40% of global fishmeal production and 50% of global fish oil production.
Next week, IFFO's members will gather in Spain's capital, Madrid. For three days, scientists and industry experts will explore the latest developments in feed ingredients, feed formulations, and the growing strategic role of marine ingredients.
