The founder and ex-CEO of aquaculture software company Aquabyte, Bryton Shang, has been hired from NOAA National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration as a senior advisor.
"NOAA’s role is critical to key businesses, protecting against natural disasters, and ensuring marine resources, and this role leverages my lifelong passion for applying AI to important world challenges," Shang posted on his LinkedIn profile.
In August 2024, Aquabyte announced that Steve Tucker was going to be its CEO and Board Chair, taking over from Bryton Shang, who founded the company in 2017 and was its CEO until 2024.
Shang founded Aquabyte in 2017. It has offices in Norway, Chile, and the USA, and specialises in integrating AI and machine learning into sustainable fish farming practices, particularly for trout and salmon.
Less than a month ago, it launched a new product called 'Aquabyte Behaviour', which monitors swim speed, swim tilt, and the breathing index of farmed fish. Through an archive of video clips from the pens, the new tool provides insights into fish behaviour patterns, helping farmers reduce risks and improve welfare.
