The Guild of Fine Food, which runs the world's most trusted food and drink accreditation scheme, has awarded Mowi Scottish Salmon Fillets (230g) a Great Taste star award. While many smoked salmon have won Great Taste awards, Mowi Salmon has been awarded for its fresh 'chef's cut' fillets. 2025 is the first year that a fresh Scottish salmon fillet has received this accolade.

As explained by Great Taste, testing a product with its panel of more than 500 experts is "a quick way to get honest, straightforward and impartial feedback from chefs, buyers, food writers and retailers." Recognized as a stamp of excellence by food lovers and retailers, this award values taste above all else.

Thus, all competing products are blind tasted, with each product removed from its packaging so that it cannot be identified, before entering a rigorous, step-by-step evaluation method. On this occasion, more than 14,000 products participated in the painstaking process.

In this 2025 edition, the Mowi Scottish Salmon Fillets were noted for a "clean aroma and oily richness," and feedback also concluded that "the flakes were well-defined" and "the texture was firm yet tender." Experts also added that they had "enjoyed the gentle straightforward flavour and applauded the lack of fatty flabbiness."

"The Great Taste mark is a stamp of excellence and one of the most recognised accolades in the food and drink industry, so we are incredibly honoured for our Mowi Scottish Salmon Fillets two pack to be recognised this way," Robin Brown, Technical and Development Director at Mowi Consumer Products UK (CPUK) said, commenting on what the company called a "superb achievement."

"Our success is testament to the hard work and 60 years of expertise from the Mowi team at every stage from egg to plate in raising and preparing quality salmon," the Technical and Development Director at Mowi CPUK continued.

"From our west coast colleagues who care for our salmon every day to all those involved in Rosyth when hand selecting and preparing the best for chef-inspired, restaurant quality salmon for our customers to enjoy at home," he added, thanking them for their hard work and congratulating them for it.

As mentioned by Robin Brown, 2025 marks six decades since the introduction of farmed salmonids to Scotland. But not only that, this year also marks ten years since Mowi Consumer Products UK opened its doors in Rosyth, Fife, where the Mowi Scottish Salmon Fillets (230g) that have now won a Great Taste star award are prepared.

The award-winning fillets also carry the quality seal of the Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC), a certification that Mowi has held since 2022, when it became the first Scottish salmon brand to obtain this high standard of raising fish, minimising impact on communities and the environment.

The good news for Mowi follows the recent launch of 'Mowi Signature', a new line of Scottish and Norwegian salmon products, also meeting ASC quality standards, designed for chefs, and to be sold under fixed-cost contracts in the North American foodservice market.
