Adisseo, BIOLAN, and Cargill have joined the Sustainable Shrimp Partnership (SSP) as its new associate members to promote responsible, sustainable, and transparent practices in aquaculture. The expertise, innovation, and resources of these companies will help encourage sustainable shrimp farming practices.

Regarding this collaboration, SSP Director Pamela Nath expressed the importance of joining forces among the various stakeholders in the industry: "From producers to suppliers, it’s essential to embrace sustainability at every stage to ensure long-term impact. The involvement of leading companies like Adisseo, BIOLAN, and Cargill brings us closer to achieving that vision."

Additionally, Adisseo Innovation Project Manager Lucas Assis explained the reason why they have participated in this initiative: "By joining SSP, Adisseo strengthens its leadership in sustainable shrimp production, driving collaborative innovation and sharing best practices with industry peers.  This partnership provides access to valuable insights and resources, enhances networking opportunities, and underscores Adisseo’s commitment to advancing sustainability in the strategically important LATAM region."

Moreover, BIOLAN CEO Asier Albizu mentioned the role of countries like Ecuador in this matter: "BIOLAN’s goal is to work closely with the sector to create robust synergies that facilitate continuous improvement, focusing on traceability, sustainability, and digitalization in production processes to position Ecuadorian aquaculture internationally as a sustainable and renowned industry."

Finally, Cargill’s Aqua Nutrition Group Sustainability Lead Dave Robb expressed: "Sustainability is at the core of everything we do at Cargill.  Partnerships like this strengthen our ability to reshape the shrimp industry at scale;  fostering transparency, improving environmental practices, and collaborating as an industry to set new standards for responsible production."

SSP vision

The Sustainable Shrimp Partnership aims to promote transparency, accountability, inclusion, and progressive leadership by setting an example for suppliers, producers, retailers, academic institutions, and NGOs.

Companies such as BASF, BioMar, dsm-firmenich, Houdek-Prairie AquaTech, Inve Aquaculture, Nicovita, MSD Animal Health, and Skretting are already part of this initiative.

SSP celebrated in 2024 its 6 years of trajectory promoting sustainability in global shrimp production. All SSP projects during these years promoted transparency, and environmental and social responsibility, while also ensuring that the shrimp they provide meets the highest standards, the organization expressed through a statement.

Also, the partnership joined in June the Global Sustainable Seafood Initiative (GSSI) as an Affiliated Partner. GSSI is a global, multi-stakeholder platform for collaboration and knowledge exchange to address sustainability challenges.
