The Sustainable Shrimp Partnership (SSP)
The Sustainable Shrimp Partnership (SSP) and the National Chamber of Aquaculture (CNA) have held the latest edition of SustainED in Guayaquil, Ecuador, an educational program designed to promote the sustainable development of the Ecuadorian shrimp industry.
On this occasion, over 150 experts have gathered with one goal: to discuss strategic water and soil management and learn about the most effective practices to improve environmental quality and achieve more sustainable shrimp production.
"Through SustainED, we aim to provide industry stakeholders with strategies for the sustainable use of resources, ensuring that our practices preserve the environment while providing quality protein to consumers," indicated SSP Director Pamela Nath.
Additionally, the Executive President of CNA, José Antonio Camposano, explained: "The knowledge shared in SustainED helps participants integrate these measures into their operations, resulting in a more efficient, responsible industry that is better prepared to face current and future challenges."
During the event, representatives from companies such as BASF, BioMar, Nicovita, and Skretting delivered presentations on the sustainability and productivity of the shrimp industry.
March 2025 marked the seventh anniversary of SSP. In these seven years of activity, the development of Ecuador's Sustainable Shrimp Partnership has been marked by four major milestones that have redefined its role in the sector: the consolidation of the SSP certification, the creation of the Sustainability Leadership Roundtable, the 'Scale Up' program implementation, and the promotion of consumer awareness.
Moreover, during AquaExpo, held at the Guayaquil Convention Center, the SSP and CNA hosted for the first time the inaugural edition of the new sustainability forum, Race to the Top.
